The Word-Count Declaration

Measured on the corpus, both orthographies:

77,881

whitespace tokens — Uthmani rasm

78,248

whitespace tokens — simple (imla’i) spelling

367

words where the two scripts differ on joins — the whole gap, located

Classical positions also differ on attached particles, the definite article and prefixed conjunctions — recorded in the tradition as one word by some, two by others. The transmitted classical totals (77,437–77,439) sit beside the measured ones with their own methods. The unit must always be declared.
