بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ وَيْلٌ لِّكُلِّ هُمَزَةٍ لُّمَزَةٍ
Woe to every fault-finder and back-biter. Both traditions take the two words from the same root sense of breaking, and read them together as tearing at people's standing behind their backs. Both add the same thing about it: what gets picked at is not a real fault at all.
”وَیْل“ عذاب اور وعید کا کلمہ ہے۔ ”ہُمَزَۃ“ اور ”لُمَزَۃ“ دونوں مبالغے کے صیغے ہیں، یعنی جو بہت زیادہ ہمز اور لمز کرے۔ ان کے معنی کا مدار لوگوں کی عزت پر حملہ کرنے اور ان کے عیب اچھالنے پر ہے — خواہ زبان سے ہو یا ہاتھ اور آنکھ کے اشارے سے، اور خواہ سامنے ہو یا پیٹھ پیچھے۔ اس میں وہ شخص بھی داخل ہے جو دوسروں کے قول، فعل اور لہجے کی نقل اتار کر لوگوں کو ہنساتا ہے۔
