فَجَعَلَهُمْ كَعَصْفٍ مَّأْكُولٍۭ
And He made them like chewed-over husks. Both traditions gloss the image alike: the stalk left after cattle have been at it, eaten and trodden and finished, with nothing of the shape it had still standing.
”پھر اس نے انہیں کھائے ہوئے بھوسے کی طرح کر دیا۔“ ”عَصْف“ کھیتی کے پتوں اور بھوسے کو کہتے ہیں، اور ”مَاْکُوْل“ یعنی جسے جانور کھا اور روند چکے ہوں، تو وہ چورا چورا ہو جائے اور اس میں کوئی کام کی چیز باقی نہ رہے۔ ہاتھی اور لشکر لے کر آنے والے اسی حال کو پہنچ گئے — اور اس سے بڑھ کر اس بات کی کوئی دلیل نہیں کہ اپنے گھر کی حفاظت اللہ خود کرتا ہے۔
