فَلَوْلَا كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْقُرُونِ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ أُو۟لُوا۟ بَقِيَّةٍ يَنْهَوْنَ عَنِ ٱلْفَسَادِ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا مِّمَّنْ أَنجَيْنَا مِنْهُمْ وَٱتَّبَعَ ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ مَآ أُتْرِفُوا۟ فِيهِ وَكَانُوا۟ مُجْرِمِينَ
If only there had been among the generations before you men of lasting worth who forbade corruption in the land, other than the few of them whom We saved. Those who did wrong followed the ease they had been given, and they were guilty.
پھر کیوں نہ ہوئے تم سے پہلے کی نسلوں میں کچھ ایسے صاحبِ فضل لوگ جو زمین میں فساد سے روکتے، سوائے تھوڑے سے لوگوں کے جنہیں ہم نے ان میں سے بچا لیا، اور ظالم لوگ اسی آسائش کے پیچھے لگے رہے جو انہیں دی گئی تھی، اور وہ مجرم بن گئے۔
