قَالَ لَمْ أَكُن لِّأَسْجُدَ لِبَشَرٍ خَلَقْتَهُۥ مِن صَلْصَٰلٍ مِّنْ حَمَإٍ مَّسْنُونٍ
He said: I am not one to prostrate to a mortal You created from dry clay, out of dark mud altered by time. The commentaries read the refusal as an argument from material — he weighed what each was made of and drew a conclusion about rank from it.
اس نے کہا: میں کبھی اس بشر کو سجدہ کرنے والا نہیں جسے تو نے خشک بجتی ہوئی مٹی سے پیدا کیا ہے جو سیاہ اور بدلے ہوئے گارے سے بنی ہے۔ مفسرین اس انکار کو مادے کی بنیاد پر دی گئی دلیل سمجھتے ہیں: اس نے دونوں کے مادے کا وزن کر کے مرتبے کا فیصلہ کر لیا۔
