وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُم مَّاذَآ أَنزَلَ رَبُّكُمْ قَالُوٓا۟ أَسَٰطِيرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
And when they are asked: what has your Lord sent down? — they say: tales of those who went before. The commentaries note the answer does not deny that something was sent down; it dismisses it as old and already known.
اور جب ان سے کہا جاتا ہے کہ تمہارے رب نے کیا نازل کیا ہے تو وہ کہتے ہیں: پہلوں کی کہانیاں۔ مفسرین اس جواب کو یوں سمجھتے ہیں کہ یہ کسی چیز کے نازل ہونے کا انکار نہیں کرتا بلکہ اسے پرانی اور پہلے سے معلوم کہہ کر رد کر دیتا ہے۔
