مَّنِ ٱهْتَدَىٰ فَإِنَّمَا يَهْتَدِى لِنَفْسِهِۦ وَمَن ضَلَّ فَإِنَّمَا يَضِلُّ عَلَيْهَا وَلَا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٌ وِزْرَ أُخْرَىٰ وَمَا كُنَّا مُعَذِّبِينَ حَتَّىٰ نَبْعَثَ رَسُولًا
Whoever goes right goes right for himself, and whoever strays strays against himself. And no bearer of a burden bears the burden of another. And We do not punish until We have sent a messenger. The commentaries read the last as a standing condition and not a description of one case.
جو ہدایت پائے وہ اپنے ہی لیے ہدایت پاتا ہے، اور جو گمراہ ہو وہ اپنے ہی خلاف گمراہ ہوتا ہے۔ اور کوئی بوجھ اٹھانے والا کسی دوسرے کا بوجھ نہیں اٹھائے گا۔ اور ہم کسی کو رسول بھیجے بغیر عذاب نہیں دیتے۔ مفسرین اس آخری بات کو ایک ہمیشہ قائم رہنے والی شرط سمجھتے ہیں، نہ کہ کسی ایک واقعے کا بیان۔
