قُلْ كُونُوا۟ حِجَارَةً أَوْ حَدِيدًا
Say: be stones, or iron — the commentaries read the answer as conceding the hardest material they could name and then showing it changes nothing, since the difficulty they are raising was never about the material.
کہہ دیجیے: تم پتھر بن جاؤ یا لوہا۔ مفسرین اس جواب کو یوں سمجھتے ہیں کہ سب سے سخت مادے کو مان کر بھی یہ ثابت کیا جا رہا ہے کہ اس سے کچھ فرق نہیں پڑتا، کیونکہ جو اشکال یہ اٹھا رہے تھے اس کا تعلق کبھی مادے سے تھا ہی نہیں۔
