ٱلَّذِينَ ضَلَّ سَعْيُهُمْ فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَهُمْ يَحْسَبُونَ أَنَّهُمْ يُحْسِنُونَ صُنْعًا
Those whose striving goes astray in the life of this world while they reckon they are doing good work. The commentaries take this to be the whole of the loss described: the effort was real, and it was aimed wrongly, and it was never suspected.
وہ لوگ جن کی ساری کوشش دنیا کی زندگی میں گم ہو کر رہ گئی، جبکہ وہ یہ سمجھتے رہے کہ وہ بہت اچھا کام کر رہے ہیں۔ مفسرین اسے پورے نقصان کی تفصیل سمجھتے ہیں: کوشش سچی تھی، مگر اس کا رخ غلط تھا، اور اس پر کبھی شک بھی نہیں کیا گیا۔
