وَأُحِيطَ بِثَمَرِهِۦ فَأَصْبَحَ يُقَلِّبُ كَفَّيْهِ عَلَىٰ مَآ أَنفَقَ فِيهَا وَهِىَ خَاوِيَةٌ عَلَىٰ عُرُوشِهَا وَيَقُولُ يَٰلَيْتَنِى لَمْ أُشْرِكْ بِرَبِّىٓ أَحَدًا
And his fruit was overtaken, and he was left wringing his hands over what he had spent on it, and it lay fallen on its trellises, and saying: if only I had not set up any partner with my Lord. The commentaries note that the regret names the right cause and comes at the wrong time.
اور اس کے پھل کو ہلاکت نے آ گھیرا، تو وہ اپنے دونوں ہاتھ ملتا رہ گیا اس مال پر جو اس نے اس باغ میں خرچ کیا تھا، جبکہ وہ اپنی چھتریوں پر گری پڑی تھی، اور وہ کہتا رہا: کاش میں نے اپنے رب کے ساتھ کسی کو شریک نہ ٹھہرایا ہوتا۔ مفسرین نوٹ کرتے ہیں کہ یہ ندامت صحیح وجہ بتاتی ہے مگر غلط وقت پر آتی ہے۔
