وَٱتَّبَعُوا۟ مَا تَتْلُوا۟ ٱلشَّيَٰطِينُ عَلَىٰ مُلْكِ سُلَيْمَٰنَ وَمَا كَفَرَ سُلَيْمَٰنُ وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱلشَّيَٰطِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ يُعَلِّمُونَ ٱلنَّاسَ ٱلسِّحْرَ وَمَآ أُنزِلَ عَلَى ٱلْمَلَكَيْنِ بِبَابِلَ هَٰرُوتَ وَمَٰرُوتَ وَمَا يُعَلِّمَانِ مِنْ أَحَدٍ حَتَّىٰ يَقُولَآ إِنَّمَا نَحْنُ فِتْنَةٌ فَلَا تَكْفُرْ فَيَتَعَلَّمُونَ مِنْهُمَا مَا يُفَرِّقُونَ بِهِۦ بَيْنَ ٱلْمَرْءِ وَزَوْجِهِۦ وَمَا هُم بِضَآرِّينَ بِهِۦ مِنْ أَحَدٍ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِ ٱللَّهِ وَيَتَعَلَّمُونَ مَا يَضُرُّهُمْ وَلَا يَنفَعُهُمْ وَلَقَدْ عَلِمُوا۟ لَمَنِ ٱشْتَرَىٰهُ مَا لَهُۥ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ مِنْ خَلَٰقٍ وَلَبِئْسَ مَا شَرَوْا۟ بِهِۦٓ أَنفُسَهُمْ لَوْ كَانُوا۟ يَعْلَمُونَ
And they followed what the devils used to recite about the kingdom of Solomon. Solomon did not refuse God - it was the devils who refused, teaching people sorcery, and what was sent down to the two at Babylon, Harut and Marut. And those two taught no one until they had said, 'We are only a trial, so do not refuse.' Yet people learned from them what parts a man from his wife - though they harm no one by it except by God's leave - and they learned what harmed them and did not benefit them, knowing full well that whoever bought it would have no share in the hereafter. Evil is the thing for which they sold themselves, if only they had known. Solomon is cleared by name at the start, and the warning is put in the mouths of the teachers themselves.
اور انہوں نے اس چیز کی پیروی کی جو شیاطین سلیمان کی سلطنت کے بارے میں پڑھا کرتے تھے۔ سلیمان نے کبھی کفر نہیں کیا — کفر تو شیاطین نے کیا، جو لوگوں کو جادو سکھاتے تھے، اور وہ چیز جو بابل میں دو فرشتوں، ہاروت اور ماروت، پر اتاری گئی تھی۔ اور وہ دونوں کسی کو نہیں سکھاتے تھے جب تک یہ نہ کہہ دیں: 'ہم تو صرف ایک آزمائش ہیں، سو کفر مت کرو۔' پھر بھی لوگ ان دونوں سے وہ چیز سیکھتے جس سے وہ مرد اور اس کی بیوی کے درمیان جدائی ڈال دیتے — حالانکہ وہ اس سے کسی کو نقصان نہیں پہنچا سکتے تھے سوائے اللہ کی اجازت کے — اور وہ ایسی چیز سیکھتے جو انہیں نقصان دیتی اور فائدہ نہیں دیتی، جبکہ وہ اچھی طرح جانتے تھے کہ جو بھی اسے خرید لے اس کے لیے آخرت میں کوئی حصہ نہیں۔ بہت بری ہے وہ چیز جس کے بدلے انہوں نے اپنے آپ کو بیچا، کاش وہ جانتے۔ سلیمان کو شروع ہی میں نام لے کر بری کر دیا گیا، اور تنبیہ خود انہی استادوں کے منہ سے دلوائی گئی۔
