وَمِنْ حَيْثُ خَرَجْتَ فَوَلِّ وَجْهَكَ شَطْرَ ٱلْمَسْجِدِ ٱلْحَرَامِ وَحَيْثُ مَا كُنتُمْ فَوَلُّوا۟ وُجُوهَكُمْ شَطْرَهُۥ لِئَلَّا يَكُونَ لِلنَّاسِ عَلَيْكُمْ حُجَّةٌ إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ مِنْهُمْ فَلَا تَخْشَوْهُمْ وَٱخْشَوْنِى وَلِأُتِمَّ نِعْمَتِى عَلَيْكُمْ وَلَعَلَّكُمْ تَهْتَدُونَ
And from wherever you set out, turn your face towards the Sacred Mosque; and wherever you are, turn your faces towards it - so that people will have no argument against you, except those of them who do wrong. So do not fear them, but fear Me; and so that I may complete My favour upon you, and that you may be guided. Two reasons are given for the same command, and both are about what it makes possible rather than about the direction itself.
اور آپ جہاں سے بھی نکلیں، اپنا چہرہ مسجدِ حرام کی طرف پھیر لیجیے، اور تم جہاں کہیں بھی ہو اپنے چہرے اسی کی طرف پھیر لو، تاکہ لوگوں کے پاس تمہارے خلاف کوئی دلیل نہ رہے، سوائے ان میں سے جنہوں نے ظلم کیا — سو ان سے نہ ڈرو، مجھی سے ڈرو — اور تاکہ میں تم پر اپنی نعمت مکمل کر دوں اور تاکہ تم ہدایت پاؤ۔ ایک ہی حکم کے لیے دو وجہیں بیان کی گئی ہیں، اور دونوں کا تعلق اس بات سے ہے کہ یہ حکم کیا ممکن بناتا ہے، خود سمت سے نہیں۔
