كَانَ ٱلنَّاسُ أُمَّةً وَٰحِدَةً فَبَعَثَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ مُبَشِّرِينَ وَمُنذِرِينَ وَأَنزَلَ مَعَهُمُ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ بِٱلْحَقِّ لِيَحْكُمَ بَيْنَ ٱلنَّاسِ فِيمَا ٱخْتَلَفُوا۟ فِيهِ وَمَا ٱخْتَلَفَ فِيهِ إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوهُ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا جَآءَتْهُمُ ٱلْبَيِّنَٰتُ بَغْيًۢا بَيْنَهُمْ فَهَدَى ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لِمَا ٱخْتَلَفُوا۟ فِيهِ مِنَ ٱلْحَقِّ بِإِذْنِهِۦ وَٱللَّهُ يَهْدِى مَن يَشَآءُ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ
Mankind was one community; then God sent the prophets bringing good news and warning, and sent down with them the Book with the truth, to judge between people in what they differed about. And none differed about it except the very ones who had been given it, after the clear proofs had come to them, out of rivalry between them. So God guided those who believed to the truth of what they differed about, by His leave; and God guides whom He wills to a straight path. The Book came to settle the disagreement, and the disagreement that followed was started by the people holding the Book.
لوگ ایک ہی امت تھے، پھر اللہ نے نبیوں کو خوشخبری دینے والے اور ڈرانے والے بنا کر بھیجا، اور ان کے ساتھ کتاب حق کے ساتھ نازل کی تاکہ وہ لوگوں کے درمیان اس چیز کا فیصلہ کرے جس میں وہ اختلاف کرتے تھے۔ اور اس میں اختلاف صرف انہی لوگوں نے کیا جنہیں وہ کتاب دی گئی تھی، اس کے بعد کہ واضح دلائل ان کے پاس آ چکے تھے، محض آپس کی ضد کی وجہ سے۔ سو اللہ نے ایمان والوں کو اپنی توفیق سے اس حق کی طرف ہدایت دی جس میں وہ اختلاف کر رہے تھے؛ اور اللہ جسے چاہے سیدھی راہ کی طرف ہدایت دیتا ہے۔ کتاب اس اختلاف کو ختم کرنے کے لیے آئی تھی، اور جو اختلاف اس کے بعد پیدا ہوا وہ خود اسی کتاب کے حامل لوگوں نے شروع کیا۔
