وَءَامِنُوا۟ بِمَآ أَنزَلْتُ مُصَدِّقًا لِّمَا مَعَكُمْ وَلَا تَكُونُوٓا۟ أَوَّلَ كَافِرٍۭ بِهِۦ وَلَا تَشْتَرُوا۟ بِـَٔايَٰتِى ثَمَنًا قَلِيلًا وَإِيَّٰىَ فَٱتَّقُونِ
And believe in what I have sent down, confirming what is already with you, and do not be the first to reject it. Do not sell My signs for a small price - a scrap of this world - and it is Me you should guard yourselves against. The warning against being 'the first' is about the weight of setting an example others follow.
اور اس چیز پر ایمان لاؤ جو میں نے نازل کی ہے، جو اس کتاب کی تصدیق کرتی ہے جو تمہارے پاس پہلے سے موجود ہے، اور اس کے پہلے منکر نہ بنو۔ اور میری آیتوں کو تھوڑی سی قیمت — یعنی دنیا کے ایک ٹکڑے — کے بدلے نہ بیچو، اور مجھی سے بچو۔ 'پہلے' نہ ہونے کی تاکید دراصل مثال بن جانے کی سنگینی کی طرف اشارہ ہے، کیونکہ دوسرے اسی راستے پر چل پڑتے ہیں۔
