وَمَا تِلْكَ بِيَمِينِكَ يَٰمُوسَىٰ
And what is that in your right hand, Moses? The commentaries read the question as put not for information but to fix his attention on the ordinary thing he was holding, before it was made a sign.
اور اے موسیٰ، تمہارے دائیں ہاتھ میں یہ کیا ہے؟ تفسیریں بتاتی ہیں کہ یہ سوال معلومات حاصل کرنے کے لیے نہیں تھا، بلکہ اس لیے تھا کہ موسیٰ کے ذہن میں یہ عام سی چیز، لاٹھی ہونا، پوری طرح واضح ہو جائے، اس سے پہلے کہ اسے نشانی بنایا جاتا۔
