قَالَ لَقَدْ كُنتُمْ أَنتُمْ وَءَابَآؤُكُمْ فِى ضَلَٰلٍ مُّبِينٍ
He told them plainly that they and their fathers alike had been in clear error. The error he names is the worship itself, and the commentaries gloss clear as open to anyone who looks at it.
