وَلَئِنْ أَطَعْتُم بَشَرًا مِّثْلَكُمْ إِنَّكُمْ إِذًا لَّخَٰسِرُونَ
And if you obey a man like yourselves, they said, you will be the losers by it. It is put as an oath and a condition at once, so that the threat carries.
