ٱللَّهُ نُورُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ مَثَلُ نُورِهِۦ كَمِشْكَوٰةٍ فِيهَا مِصْبَاحٌ ٱلْمِصْبَاحُ فِى زُجَاجَةٍ ٱلزُّجَاجَةُ كَأَنَّهَا كَوْكَبٌ دُرِّىٌّ يُوقَدُ مِن شَجَرَةٍ مُّبَٰرَكَةٍ زَيْتُونَةٍ لَّا شَرْقِيَّةٍ وَلَا غَرْبِيَّةٍ يَكَادُ زَيْتُهَا يُضِىٓءُ وَلَوْ لَمْ تَمْسَسْهُ نَارٌ نُّورٌ عَلَىٰ نُورٍ يَهْدِى ٱللَّهُ لِنُورِهِۦ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَضْرِبُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْأَمْثَٰلَ لِلنَّاسِ وَٱللَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍ عَلِيمٌ
God is the light of the heavens and the earth. His light is set out in a comparison: a niche holding a lamp, the lamp inside glass, and the glass like a shining star; the lamp fed from a blessed olive tree belonging to no one quarter, neither east nor west, whose oil is so clear it would almost give light of itself before any fire touched it. Light upon light. God guides to His light whom He wills, and He sets such comparisons before people, and He knows everything.
اللہ آسمانوں اور زمین کا نور ہے جس کی روشنی سے ان کے رہنے والے ہدایت پاتے ہیں۔ اس کے نور کی مثال مومن کے دل میں ایسی ہے جیسے ایک طاق ہو جس میں چراغ رکھا ہو، وہ چراغ ایک شیشے کے اندر ہو، وہ شیشہ اپنی چمک کی وجہ سے گویا ایک چمکتا ہوا ستارہ ہو، یہ چراغ زیتون کے ایک بابرکت درخت کے تیل سے جلایا جاتا ہو جو نہ خالص مشرق کی طرف ہے نہ مغرب کی طرف بلکہ دونوں طرف سے دھوپ لیتا ہے اس لیے اس کا تیل نہایت صاف ہے، اس کا تیل ایسا صاف ہے کہ آگ چھوئے بغیر بھی روشن ہونے کے قریب ہو، یعنی نور پر نور۔ اللہ اپنے جس بندے کو چاہے اس نور کی طرف ہدایت دیتا ہے، اور اللہ لوگوں کے لیے مثالیں بیان کرتا ہے تاکہ ان کی سمجھ آسان ہو، اور اللہ ہر چیز کو خوب جاننے والا ہے۔
