لَأُعَذِّبَنَّهُۥ عَذَابًا شَدِيدًا أَوْ لَأَا۟ذْبَحَنَّهُۥٓ أَوْ لَيَأْتِيَنِّى بِسُلْطَٰنٍ مُّبِينٍ
Solomon said: I will punish him severely, or I will slaughter him, unless he brings me a clear proof for his absence. The punishment named is a bird's punishment, the plucking of feathers and the like, and the third possibility is left open from the start: a reason that clears him.
سلیمان علیہ السلام نے کہا: میں اسے سخت سزا دوں گا یا اسے ذبح کر دوں گا، الا یہ کہ وہ اپنی غیر حاضری کی کوئی واضح دلیل لے آئے۔ یہاں جس سزا کا ذکر ہے وہ پرندے کے لیے مناسب سزا ہے، جیسے پر نوچنا وغیرہ، اور تیسرا امکان شروع ہی سے کھلا رکھا گیا ہے: ایسا عذر جو اسے بری کر دے۔
