يَٰٓأَهْلَ ٱلْكِتَٰبِ لِمَ تُحَآجُّونَ فِىٓ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَمَآ أُنزِلَتِ ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةُ وَٱلْإِنجِيلُ إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعْدِهِۦٓ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ
People of the Scripture, why do you argue about Abraham when the Torah and the Gospel were only sent down after him? Do you not use reason? The commentaries carry the occasion together: the Jews claimed Abraham as a Jew and the Christians claimed him as a Christian, and the ayah answers both with a date.
اے اہل کتاب، تم ابراہیم کے بارے میں کیوں جھگڑتے ہو جبکہ تورات اور انجیل ان کے بعد ہی نازل ہوئیں؟ کیا تم عقل نہیں رکھتے؟ مفسرین اس کا پس منظر بھی ساتھ بیان کرتے ہیں: یہود نے دعویٰ کیا کہ ابراہیم یہودی تھے، اور نصاریٰ نے دعویٰ کیا کہ وہ عیسائی تھے، اور آیت نے دونوں کو ایک تاریخ کے ذریعے جواب دے دیا۔
