وَمِنْ أَهْلِ ٱلْكِتَٰبِ مَنْ إِن تَأْمَنْهُ بِقِنطَارٍ يُؤَدِّهِۦٓ إِلَيْكَ وَمِنْهُم مَّنْ إِن تَأْمَنْهُ بِدِينَارٍ لَّا يُؤَدِّهِۦٓ إِلَيْكَ إِلَّا مَا دُمْتَ عَلَيْهِ قَآئِمًا ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ قَالُوا۟ لَيْسَ عَلَيْنَا فِى ٱلْأُمِّيِّـۧنَ سَبِيلٌ وَيَقُولُونَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ٱلْكَذِبَ وَهُمْ يَعْلَمُونَ
Among the People of the Scripture is the one who, entrusted with a heap of treasure, returns it to you; and among them is the one who, entrusted with a single coin, will not return it unless you stand over him. That is because they say: we owe nothing on account of the unlettered. And they say a lie against God, knowing it — the commentaries agree the licence they claimed for themselves is nowhere in what God sent down.
اہل کتاب میں سے کوئی ایسا بھی ہے کہ اگر تم اسے ڈھیروں مال کی امانت دو تو وہ تمہیں واپس کر دے، اور انہی میں سے کوئی ایسا بھی ہے کہ اگر تم اسے ایک دینار کی امانت دو تو وہ تمہیں واپس نہیں کرے گا جب تک تم اس کے سر پر کھڑے نہ رہو۔ اس کی وجہ یہ ہے کہ وہ کہتے ہیں: امیوں کے معاملے میں ہم پر کوئی گناہ نہیں، اور وہ جانتے بوجھتے اللہ پر جھوٹ باندھتے ہیں۔ مفسرین اس بات پر متفق ہیں کہ یہ رخصت جو انہوں نے اپنے لیے گھڑ لی ہے اللہ کی نازل کردہ کسی چیز میں موجود نہیں ہے۔
