وَإِذْ تَقُولُ لِلَّذِىٓ أَنْعَمَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَأَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيْهِ أَمْسِكْ عَلَيْكَ زَوْجَكَ وَٱتَّقِ ٱللَّهَ وَتُخْفِى فِى نَفْسِكَ مَا ٱللَّهُ مُبْدِيهِ وَتَخْشَى ٱلنَّاسَ وَٱللَّهُ أَحَقُّ أَن تَخْشَىٰهُ فَلَمَّا قَضَىٰ زَيْدٌ مِّنْهَا وَطَرًا زَوَّجْنَٰكَهَا لِكَىْ لَا يَكُونَ عَلَى ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ حَرَجٌ فِىٓ أَزْوَٰجِ أَدْعِيَآئِهِمْ إِذَا قَضَوْا۟ مِنْهُنَّ وَطَرًا وَكَانَ أَمْرُ ٱللَّهِ مَفْعُولًا
And when you said to the one whom God had favoured with Islam and whom you had favoured by freeing him: keep your wife, and be mindful of God. And you kept within yourself what God was going to bring out, and you feared what people would say, while God has more right to be feared. Then when Zayd had finished with her, God gave her to you in marriage, so that the believers should find no difficulty over the wives of their adopted sons once those have finished with them. And God's command is carried out.
اور اس وقت کو یاد کرو جب آپ نے زید بن حارثہ سے، جن پر اللہ نے اسلام کی نعمت کی اور آپ نے آزادی کی نعمت کی، کہا کہ اپنی بیوی زینب کو نہ چھوڑو اور اللہ سے ڈرو۔ اور آپ اپنے دل میں وہ بات چھپا رہے تھے جسے اللہ ظاہر کرنے والا تھا، اور آپ لوگوں کی باتوں سے ڈرتے تھے حالانکہ اللہ ہی اس بات کا زیادہ حق دار ہے کہ اس سے ڈرا جائے۔ پھر جب زید نے ان سے اپنی حاجت پوری کر لی یعنی طلاق دے دی، تو ہم نے خود ان کا نکاح آپ سے کر دیا تاکہ مومنوں پر اپنے منہ بولے بیٹوں کی طلاق شدہ بیویوں سے نکاح کرنے میں کوئی حرج نہ رہے، اور اللہ کا حکم ضرور پورا ہونے والا تھا۔
