تُرْجِى مَن تَشَآءُ مِنْهُنَّ وَتُـْٔوِىٓ إِلَيْكَ مَن تَشَآءُ وَمَنِ ٱبْتَغَيْتَ مِمَّنْ عَزَلْتَ فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْكَ ذَٰلِكَ أَدْنَىٰٓ أَن تَقَرَّ أَعْيُنُهُنَّ وَلَا يَحْزَنَّ وَيَرْضَيْنَ بِمَآ ءَاتَيْتَهُنَّ كُلُّهُنَّ وَٱللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ مَا فِى قُلُوبِكُمْ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ عَلِيمًا حَلِيمًا
You may put off whichever of your wives you will from her turn, and take to yourself whichever you will, and if you seek again one you had set aside there is no blame on you. That is the more likely way for their eyes to be at rest and for them not to grieve, and for all of them to be content with what you give them. And God knows what is in your hearts. God is Knowing, Forbearing.
اے نبی! آپ کو اختیار ہے کہ اپنی جس بیوی کو چاہیں اس کی باری مؤخر کریں، اور جسے چاہیں اپنے پاس رکھیں، اور جسے آپ نے مؤخر کیا تھا اگر اسے دوبارہ چاہیں تو اس میں کوئی حرج نہیں۔ یہ اختیار اس بات کے زیادہ قریب ہے کہ ان کی آنکھیں ٹھنڈی ہوں اور وہ غمگین نہ ہوں اور آپ کی دی ہوئی چیز پر سب راضی رہیں۔ اور اللہ تمہارے دلوں کی بات جانتا ہے، اور اللہ خوب جاننے والا اور بردبار ہے۔
