إِنَّا عَرَضْنَا ٱلْأَمَانَةَ عَلَى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَٱلْجِبَالِ فَأَبَيْنَ أَن يَحْمِلْنَهَا وَأَشْفَقْنَ مِنْهَا وَحَمَلَهَا ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ ظَلُومًا جَهُولًا
God offered the trust to the heavens and the earth and the mountains, and they refused to carry it and were afraid of it, and the human being carried it. The commentaries take the trust as what a person is entrusted with and answerable for, with reward following on keeping it and punishment on leaving it. He was one who wrongs himself and does not know what he is taking on.
بیشک ہم نے یہ امانت، یعنی وہ فرائض اور ذمہ داریاں جن پر انسان کو ثواب یا عذاب دیا جائے گا، آسمانوں، زمین اور پہاڑوں کے سامنے پیش کی، تو ان بڑی مخلوقات نے اسے اٹھانے سے انکار کر دیا اور اس کے انجام سے ڈر گئیں، اور انسان نے اپنی کمزوری کے باوجود اسے اٹھا لیا۔ بیشک انسان اپنی جان پر ظلم کرنے والا تھا، اور اس ذمہ داری کی مقدار سے ناواقف تھا۔
