وَلَن تَسْتَطِيعُوٓا۟ أَن تَعْدِلُوا۟ بَيْنَ ٱلنِّسَآءِ وَلَوْ حَرَصْتُمْ فَلَا تَمِيلُوا۟ كُلَّ ٱلْمَيْلِ فَتَذَرُوهَا كَٱلْمُعَلَّقَةِ وَإِن تُصْلِحُوا۟ وَتَتَّقُوا۟ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ غَفُورًا رَّحِيمًا
You will never be able to deal equally between wives, however much you want to. So do not lean away entirely, leaving her hanging. If you set things right and guard yourselves, God is forgiving, merciful. The commentaries agree on what is beyond a man's power and what is not: the inclination of the heart cannot be levelled, and the treatment can.
اور تم عورتوں کے درمیان مکمل عدل کبھی نہیں کر سکو گے، چاہے تم کتنی ہی خواہش کیوں نہ رکھو۔ سو پورے کے پورے کسی ایک طرف مت جھک جاؤ کہ دوسری کو لٹکی ہوئی حالت میں چھوڑ دو۔ اور اگر تم اصلاح کر لو اور تقویٰ اختیار کرو تو بےشک اللہ بہت بخشنے والا، بہت رحم کرنے والا ہے۔ مفسرین اس بات پر متفق ہیں کہ انسان کی طاقت سے باہر کیا ہے اور کیا نہیں: دل کا میلان برابر نہیں کیا جا سکتا، مگر سلوک برابر کیا جا سکتا ہے۔
