مَّا يَفْعَلُ ٱللَّهُ بِعَذَابِكُمْ إِن شَكَرْتُمْ وَءَامَنتُمْ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ شَاكِرًا عَلِيمًا
What would God do with punishing you, if you are thankful and believe? God is appreciative, knowing. The commentaries make the same point about the question: punishment answers no need in Him, since He gains nothing by it and loses nothing without it.
