وَٱلَّٰتِى يَأْتِينَ ٱلْفَٰحِشَةَ مِن نِّسَآئِكُمْ فَٱسْتَشْهِدُوا۟ عَلَيْهِنَّ أَرْبَعَةً مِّنكُمْ فَإِن شَهِدُوا۟ فَأَمْسِكُوهُنَّ فِى ٱلْبُيُوتِ حَتَّىٰ يَتَوَفَّىٰهُنَّ ٱلْمَوْتُ أَوْ يَجْعَلَ ٱللَّهُ لَهُنَّ سَبِيلًا
As for those of your women who commit the indecency, call four witnesses from among you against them; and if they testify, then confine them to the houses until death takes them, or until God appoints a way for them. The commentaries agree on two things: the number of witnesses is four, and the closing words announce that this ruling was not the last word on the matter.
تمہاری عورتوں میں سے جو بےحیائی کا ارتکاب کریں، ان پر اپنے میں سے چار گواہ طلب کرو، اور اگر وہ گواہی دے دیں تو ان عورتوں کو گھروں میں بند کر دو یہاں تک کہ موت انہیں آ لے، یا اللہ ان کے لیے کوئی اور راستہ نکال دے۔ مفسرین دو باتوں پر متفق ہیں: گواہوں کی تعداد چار ہی ہے، اور آخری الفاظ یہ اعلان کرتے ہیں کہ یہ حکم اس معاملے میں آخری فیصلہ نہیں تھا۔
