يَسْـَٔلُكَ أَهْلُ ٱلْكِتَٰبِ أَن تُنَزِّلَ عَلَيْهِمْ كِتَٰبًا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ فَقَدْ سَأَلُوا۟ مُوسَىٰٓ أَكْبَرَ مِن ذَٰلِكَ فَقَالُوٓا۟ أَرِنَا ٱللَّهَ جَهْرَةً فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلصَّٰعِقَةُ بِظُلْمِهِمْ ثُمَّ ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ ٱلْعِجْلَ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا جَآءَتْهُمُ ٱلْبَيِّنَٰتُ فَعَفَوْنَا عَن ذَٰلِكَ وَءَاتَيْنَا مُوسَىٰ سُلْطَٰنًا مُّبِينًا
The People of the Scripture ask you to bring down on them a book from heaven. They asked Moses for something greater than that, and said: show us God openly — and the thunderbolt seized them for their wrongdoing. Then they took the calf after the clear proofs had come to them, and We pardoned that; and We gave Moses a plain authority.
اہل کتاب تم سے یہ مطالبہ کرتے ہیں کہ تم ان پر آسمان سے ایک کتاب اتارو۔ حالانکہ انہوں نے موسیٰ سے اس سے بھی بڑی بات مانگی تھی، اور کہا تھا: ہمیں اللہ کو کھلم کھلا دکھا دو — سو ان کے ظلم کی وجہ سے انہیں کڑکتی بجلی نے آ پکڑا۔ پھر انہوں نے واضح نشانیاں آ جانے کے بعد بھی بچھڑے کو معبود بنا لیا، اور ہم نے اسے معاف کر دیا، اور موسیٰ کو کھلا غلبہ عطا کیا۔
