قَدْ سَأَلَهَا قَوْمٌ مِّن قَبْلِكُمْ ثُمَّ أَصْبَحُوا۟ بِهَا كَٰفِرِينَ
A people before you asked about them, and then became refusers of them. The commentaries make the same point about the sequence: the answer came, and the asking turned out to be what they could not then carry.
