كَانُوا۟ لَا يَتَنَاهَوْنَ عَن مُّنكَرٍ فَعَلُوهُ لَبِئْسَ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَفْعَلُونَ
They did not restrain one another from the wrong they did. Evil indeed is what they used to do. The commentaries take this as the charge that follows the curse: the wrong was not everyone's doing, but the silence about it was.
وہ ایک دوسرے کو اس برائی سے نہیں روکتے تھے جو وہ خود کرتے تھے، یقیناً وہ جو کچھ کرتے تھے وہ بہت برا تھا۔ مفسرین اسے اس لعنت کے ساتھ جوڑتے ہیں جو پہلے آیت میں گزری، کہ یہ گناہ سب کا نہ تھا مگر اس پر خاموشی سب کی تھی۔
