أَمْ تَأْمُرُهُمْ أَحْلَٰمُهُم بِهَٰذَآ أَمْ هُمْ قَوْمٌ طَاغُونَ
Or do their own minds command them this, or are they a people grown insolent? The commentaries of both traditions notice the contradiction buried in the charge: a soothsayer is sharp-witted, a madman has his reason covered over, a poet composes measured speech - and no one man can be all three.
