وَكَانُوا۟ يُصِرُّونَ عَلَى ٱلْحِنثِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
And they persisted in the great sin. The commentaries take the word for persisting as the weight of the line - not a sin fallen into but one held to and never let go of.
