وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا نُوحًا وَإِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَجَعَلْنَا فِى ذُرِّيَّتِهِمَا ٱلنُّبُوَّةَ وَٱلْكِتَٰبَ فَمِنْهُم مُّهْتَدٍ وَكَثِيرٌ مِّنْهُمْ فَٰسِقُونَ
And We sent Noah and Abraham, and placed among their offspring prophethood and the Book. Among them is one who is guided, and many of them have left obedience. The commentaries note that the whole later line of prophets and revealed books runs through these two, and read the closing clause as the sura's steady point: the descent is real and it does not carry anyone by itself.
ہم نے نوح اور ابراہیم کو بھیجا اور ان دونوں کی نسل میں نبوت اور کتاب رکھ دی، تو ان میں سے کوئی ہدایت پانے والا ہے اور ان میں سے اکثر نافرمان ہیں۔ تفسیر مقباس اس آیت کو پچھلی آیت لقد ارسلنا رسلنا بالبینات پر خاص کے عام پر عطف کے طور پر جوڑتے ہیں۔ ابن کثیر لکھتے ہیں کہ حضرت نوح کے بعد سے لے کر حضرت ابراہیم تک اور پھر ان کے بعد بھی جتنے نبی اور رسول آئے، سب کے سب انہی دونوں کی نسل سے آئے۔ زمخشری اس آیت کو ان کی حالت کی تفصیل قرار دیتے ہیں: ان میں سے کچھ ہدایت یافتہ ہیں اور کچھ فاسق، اور غلبہ فاسقوں ہی کو حاصل رہا۔
