لِّئَلَّا يَعْلَمَ أَهْلُ ٱلْكِتَٰبِ أَلَّا يَقْدِرُونَ عَلَىٰ شَىْءٍ مِّن فَضْلِ ٱللَّهِ وَأَنَّ ٱلْفَضْلَ بِيَدِ ٱللَّهِ يُؤْتِيهِ مَن يَشَآءُ وَٱللَّهُ ذُو ٱلْفَضْلِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
So that the People of the Book may know that they have no power over anything of the bounty of God, and that bounty is in the hand of God, He gives it to whom He wills. And God is the Owner of great bounty. The commentaries read this as answering a claim rather than making one: what is denied is the idea that the bounty is held by anybody who can keep it from someone else.
یہ اس لیے ہے تاکہ اہل کتاب جان لیں کہ وہ اللہ کے فضل میں سے کسی چیز پر قدرت نہیں رکھتے، اور یہ کہ فضل اللہ ہی کے ہاتھ میں ہے، وہ جسے چاہے دیتا ہے، اور اللہ بہت بڑے فضل والا ہے۔ تفسیر مقباس کے مطابق اہل کتاب قرآن میں یہود و نصاریٰ کے لیے ایک لقب ہے۔ احسن البیان کے حوالے سے، لئلا میں لا زائد ہے، اور مطلب یہ ہے کہ اہل کتاب جان لیں کہ وہ اللہ کے فضل میں سے کچھ بھی حاصل کرنے پر قادر نہیں۔ زمخشری وضاحت کرتے ہیں کہ اس سے مراد وہ اہل کتاب ہیں جو ایمان نہیں لائے، اور یہ کہ وہ اس دوہرے اجر جیسے فضل میں سے کچھ بھی نہیں پا سکتے جس کا پہلے ذکر ہوا۔
