بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ قَدْ سَمِعَ ٱللَّهُ قَوْلَ ٱلَّتِى تُجَٰدِلُكَ فِى زَوْجِهَا وَتَشْتَكِىٓ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ وَٱللَّهُ يَسْمَعُ تَحَاوُرَكُمَآ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَمِيعٌۢ بَصِيرٌ
God has heard the words of the woman who disputes with you about her husband and complains to God, and God hears the two of you talking. God is Hearing, Seeing. Both traditions carry the occasion the same way and with the same names: Aws ibn al-Samit of the Ansar, an old man, said to his wife Khawla the formula of the age before Islam - you are to me as my mother's back - which in that time made a wife forbidden for good; he regretted it, and she went to the Prophet to ask, and the sura came down.
بیشک اللہ نے اس عورت کی بات سن لی جو اے نبی! آپ سے اپنے شوہر کے ظہار کے معاملے میں جھگڑ رہی تھی اور اللہ سے شکایت کر رہی تھی، اور اللہ تم دونوں کی گفتگو سن رہا تھا۔ بیشک اللہ ہر بات کو سننے والا اور ہر حال کو دیکھنے والا ہے۔ دونوں روایتوں میں یہ واقعہ ایک ہی ناموں کے ساتھ بیان ہوا ہے کہ اوس بن صامت انصاری، جو ایک بزرگ آدمی تھے، نے اپنی بیوی خولہ سے جاہلیت کا وہ کلمہ کہا کہ تو مجھ پر میری ماں کی پیٹھ کی طرح ہے، جو اس زمانے میں بیوی کو ہمیشہ کے لیے حرام کر دیتا تھا، پھر انہیں اپنی بات پر پچھتاوا ہوا، تو خولہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس شکایت اور سوال لے کر گئیں، تو یہ سورت نازل ہوئی۔
