أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى ٱلَّذِينَ تَوَلَّوْا۟ قَوْمًا غَضِبَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِم مَّا هُم مِّنكُمْ وَلَا مِنْهُمْ وَيَحْلِفُونَ عَلَى ٱلْكَذِبِ وَهُمْ يَعْلَمُونَ
Do you not see those who have made friends of a people God is angry with? They are neither of you nor of them, and they swear to a lie knowing it is one. The commentaries read the middle clause as the whole description: not a third position but no position - people belonging to neither side and taken by neither.
کیا تم نے عبرت کی نظر سے ان منافقوں کو نہیں دیکھا جنہوں نے ان لوگوں سے دوستی کی جن پر اللہ کا غضب ہوا یعنی یہود؟ نہ وہ حقیقت میں مومنوں میں سے ہیں اور نہ ان یہودیوں میں سے جن سے وہ دوستی کرتے ہیں، اور وہ جھوٹی قسمیں کھاتے ہیں کہ وہ مومنوں میں سے ہیں حالانکہ وہ خوب جانتے ہیں کہ جھوٹ بول رہے ہیں۔ مفسرین نے درمیانی جملے کی تفسیر ان کے مکمل حال کے طور پر کی ہے، یعنی ان کا کوئی تیسرا موقف نہیں بلکہ کوئی موقف ہی نہیں، نہ کسی گروہ سے تعلق ہے اور نہ کوئی گروہ انہیں قبول کرتا ہے۔
