ٱلَّذِينَ يُظَٰهِرُونَ مِنكُم مِّن نِّسَآئِهِم مَّا هُنَّ أُمَّهَٰتِهِمْ إِنْ أُمَّهَٰتُهُمْ إِلَّا ٱلَّٰٓـِٔى وَلَدْنَهُمْ وَإِنَّهُمْ لَيَقُولُونَ مُنكَرًا مِّنَ ٱلْقَوْلِ وَزُورًا وَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَعَفُوٌّ غَفُورٌ
Those of you who put their wives away with that formula - they are not their mothers. Their mothers are only the women who gave them birth. They are saying something wrong and something false. And God is Pardoning, Forgiving. The commentaries read the two words as the whole answer to the practice: the words are a lie about a fact, and calling a wife a mother does not make her one.
جو لوگ تم میں سے اپنی بیویوں سے یہ کہہ کر ظہار کرتے ہیں کہ تو مجھ پر میری ماں کی پیٹھ کی طرح ہے، حالانکہ یہ عورتیں حقیقت میں ان کی مائیں نہیں ہیں، ان کی حقیقی مائیں تو صرف وہی ہیں جنہوں نے انہیں جنا ہے۔ اور بیشک وہ اس قول سے ایک نامناسب اور جھوٹی بات کہتے ہیں جس کی کوئی حقیقت نہیں۔ اور بیشک اللہ معاف کرنے والا اور بخشنے والا ہے۔ مفسرین نے ان دونوں الفاظ کی تفسیر اس رواج کے مکمل جواب کے طور پر کی ہے، یعنی یہ بات حقیقت کے خلاف جھوٹ ہے، اور بیوی کو ماں کہنے سے وہ حقیقت میں ماں نہیں بن جاتی۔
