أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى ٱلَّذِينَ نَافَقُوا۟ يَقُولُونَ لِإِخْوَٰنِهِمُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِنْ أَهْلِ ٱلْكِتَٰبِ لَئِنْ أُخْرِجْتُمْ لَنَخْرُجَنَّ مَعَكُمْ وَلَا نُطِيعُ فِيكُمْ أَحَدًا أَبَدًا وَإِن قُوتِلْتُمْ لَنَنصُرَنَّكُمْ وَٱللَّهُ يَشْهَدُ إِنَّهُمْ لَكَٰذِبُونَ
Do you not see those who play the hypocrite, saying to their brothers among the People of the Book who refused: If you are driven out, we will go out with you, and we will never obey anyone against you; and if you are fought, we will help you. And God bears witness that they are liars. The commentaries note the four promises are all sworn, and that the verdict on them is given before the event rather than after it.
کیا تم نے ان لوگوں کو نہیں دیکھا جو منافقت کرتے ہیں، وہ اہل کتاب میں سے اپنے انکار کرنے والے بھائیوں سے کہتے ہیں: اگر تمہیں نکالا گیا تو ہم بھی تمہارے ساتھ نکلیں گے، اور تمہارے خلاف ہم کبھی کسی کی بات نہیں مانیں گے؛ اور اگر تم سے جنگ کی گئی تو ہم تمہاری مدد کریں گے۔ اور اللہ گواہی دیتا ہے کہ وہ یقیناً جھوٹے ہیں۔ مفسرین نوٹ کرتے ہیں کہ یہ چاروں وعدے قسمیہ ہیں، اور ان کے بارے میں فیصلہ واقعے سے پہلے ہی دے دیا گیا، بعد میں نہیں۔
