وَٱلَّذِينَ تَبَوَّءُو ٱلدَّارَ وَٱلْإِيمَٰنَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ يُحِبُّونَ مَنْ هَاجَرَ إِلَيْهِمْ وَلَا يَجِدُونَ فِى صُدُورِهِمْ حَاجَةً مِّمَّآ أُوتُوا۟ وَيُؤْثِرُونَ عَلَىٰٓ أَنفُسِهِمْ وَلَوْ كَانَ بِهِمْ خَصَاصَةٌ وَمَن يُوقَ شُحَّ نَفْسِهِۦ فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ
And those who had settled in the home and in the faith before them love whoever emigrates to them, and find in their breasts no want for what the others were given, and prefer them over themselves even when they themselves are in need. And whoever is guarded from his own greed - those are the ones who succeed. The commentaries gloss the middle clause as envy, and note the sequence: not merely giving, but giving without the grudge, and giving out of one's own shortage.
اور جو لوگ ان سے پہلے اس گھر اور اس ایمان میں بس چکے تھے وہ ہر اس شخص سے محبت کرتے ہیں جو ہجرت کر کے ان کے پاس آئے، اور اپنے سینوں میں اس چیز کی کوئی حاجت نہیں پاتے جو دوسروں کو دی گئی، اور خود ضرورت مند ہونے کے باوجود بھی انہیں اپنی جانوں پر ترجیح دیتے ہیں۔ اور جو شخص اپنے نفس کے بخل سے بچا لیا جائے - تو یہی لوگ کامیاب ہیں۔ مفسرین درمیانی جملے کی وضاحت حسد کے طور پر کرتے ہیں، اور اس ترتیب کو نوٹ کرتے ہیں: صرف دینا نہیں، بلکہ بغیر کسی رنجش کے دینا، اور اپنی خود کی کمی میں سے دینا۔
