وَإِن كَانَ كَبُرَ عَلَيْكَ إِعْرَاضُهُمْ فَإِنِ ٱسْتَطَعْتَ أَن تَبْتَغِىَ نَفَقًا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ أَوْ سُلَّمًا فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ فَتَأْتِيَهُم بِـَٔايَةٍ وَلَوْ شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ لَجَمَعَهُمْ عَلَى ٱلْهُدَىٰ فَلَا تَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلْجَٰهِلِينَ
And if their turning away is hard on you, then if you could seek out a tunnel into the earth or a ladder into the sky and bring them a sign — and had God willed, He would have gathered them all to guidance. So do not be one of the ignorant. The commentaries read it as a picture of how far he would have gone for them, and of what is not his to give.
اور اگر ان کا منہ موڑنا آپ پر گراں گزرتا ہے تو اگر آپ استطاعت رکھتے ہوں کہ زمین میں کوئی سرنگ یا آسمان میں کوئی سیڑھی تلاش کر لیں اور ان کے پاس کوئی نشانی لے آئیں، تو لے آئیں — اور اگر اللہ چاہتا تو انہیں ہدایت پر اکٹھا کر دیتا۔ سو جاہلوں میں سے ہرگز نہ ہوں۔ تفاسیر اسے اس بات کی تصویر کے طور پر پڑھتی ہیں کہ آپ ان کے لیے کتنی دور تک جا سکتے تھے، اور یہ بھی کہ کیا چیز آپ کے اختیار میں نہیں۔
