وَإِن فَاتَكُمْ شَىْءٌ مِّنْ أَزْوَٰجِكُمْ إِلَى ٱلْكُفَّارِ فَعَاقَبْتُمْ فَـَٔاتُوا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ ذَهَبَتْ أَزْوَٰجُهُم مِّثْلَ مَآ أَنفَقُوا۟ وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَنتُم بِهِۦ مُؤْمِنُونَ
And if any of your wives has slipped away from you to those who refused, and then your turn comes, give those whose wives have gone the like of what they had spent. And be mindful of God, in whom you believe. The commentaries read it as settling the same account from the other side, so that a man does not carry the loss of what he had paid.
اور اگر تمہاری بیویوں میں سے کوئی کافروں کی طرف چلی جائے، پھر تمہاری باری آئے، تو جن کی بیویاں گئی ہیں انہیں اتنا ہی دے دو جتنا انہوں نے خرچ کیا تھا، اور اللہ سے ڈرو جس پر تم ایمان رکھتے ہو۔ قرطبی روایت نقل کرتے ہیں کہ مسلمانوں نے کہا ہم اللہ کے فیصلے پر راضی ہیں، اور مشرکین کو لکھا مگر انہوں نے انکار کر دیا، تو یہ آیت نازل ہوئی۔ بغوی کہتے ہیں کہ فعاقبتم کا مطلب مفسرین نے غنمتم بتایا ہے، یعنی تم نے کافروں پر حملہ کر کے مالِ غنیمت حاصل کیا۔ تفسیر مقباس اس آیت کو پچھلے فقرے واسالوا ما انفقتم پر عطف قرار دیتی ہے۔
