هُوَ ٱلَّذِى بَعَثَ فِى ٱلْأُمِّيِّـۧنَ رَسُولًا مِّنْهُمْ يَتْلُوا۟ عَلَيْهِمْ ءَايَٰتِهِۦ وَيُزَكِّيهِمْ وَيُعَلِّمُهُمُ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ وَٱلْحِكْمَةَ وَإِن كَانُوا۟ مِن قَبْلُ لَفِى ضَلَٰلٍ مُّبِينٍ
He raised up among the unlettered a messenger from among themselves, who recites God's signs to them, purifies them, and teaches them the Book and the wisdom in it. The unlettered are those who had no scripture of their own and did not read one. What he purifies them of is the setting up of partners with God and the character of the age before him, in which they were plainly astray.
وہی ہے جس نے ان پڑھوں میں انہی میں سے ایک رسول بھیجا جو انہیں اللہ کی آیتیں پڑھ کر سناتا، انہیں پاک کرتا اور انہیں کتاب اور حکمت سکھاتا ہے، حالانکہ وہ اس سے پہلے کھلی گمراہی میں تھے۔ قرطبی حضرت ابن عباس کا قول نقل کرتے ہیں کہ امیین سے مراد تمام عرب ہیں، خواہ وہ لکھنا جانتے ہوں یا نہ جانتے ہوں، کیونکہ وہ اہلِ کتاب نہیں تھے۔ علامہ سعدی وضاحت کرتے ہیں کہ امیین سے مراد وہ لوگ ہیں جن کے پاس نہ کوئی کتاب تھی اور نہ کسی رسالت کا اثر، عرب ہوں یا غیر عرب، جو اہلِ کتاب میں سے نہیں تھے، تو اللہ نے ان پر ایک بہت بڑا احسان کیا، دوسروں پر اپنے احسان سے بھی بڑا، کیونکہ وہ علم اور بھلائی سے خالی تھے۔
