ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ ءَامَنُوا۟ ثُمَّ كَفَرُوا۟ فَطُبِعَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ فَهُمْ لَا يَفْقَهُونَ
That is because they professed faith with the tongue and then refused with the heart, and held to the refusal. So their hearts were sealed, and they do not understand; the thing they no longer understand is faith itself.
یہ اس لیے ہے کہ وہ زبان سے ایمان لائے پھر دل سے کافر ہو گئے، تو ان کے دلوں پر مہر لگا دی گئی، تو وہ سمجھتے نہیں۔ قرطبی وضاحت کرتے ہیں کہ یہ اللہ کی طرف سے یہ اعلان ہے کہ منافق دراصل کافر ہے، یعنی زبان سے اقرار کیا پھر دل سے کفر کیا، اور بعض کہتے ہیں کہ یہ آیت ان لوگوں کے بارے میں نازل ہوئی جو ایمان لائے پھر مرتد ہو گئے۔ فطبع علی قلوبھم کا مطلب یہ ہے کہ ان کے دلوں پر مہر لگا دی گئی۔ تفسیر مقباس کے مطابق یہ جملہ اتخذوا ایمانھم جنۃ کی علت میں ہے، اور اس کا اشارہ انھم ساء ما کانوا یعملون کے مضمون کی طرف ہے۔
