ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُۥ كَانَت تَّأْتِيهِمْ رُسُلُهُم بِٱلْبَيِّنَٰتِ فَقَالُوٓا۟ أَبَشَرٌ يَهْدُونَنَا فَكَفَرُوا۟ وَتَوَلَّوا۟ وَّٱسْتَغْنَى ٱللَّهُ وَٱللَّهُ غَنِىٌّ حَمِيدٌ
That happened because their messengers kept coming to them with clear proofs, and they said: are mere men to guide us? So they refused and turned away, and God had no need of them. The objection was never to the proofs but to the messenger being a human being like themselves. God is the Self-sufficient, the Praiseworthy.
یہ اس لیے ہوا کہ ان کے پاس ان کے رسول واضح دلیلیں لے کر آتے رہے، تو انہوں نے کہا: کیا انسان ہمیں ہدایت دیں گے؟ تو انہوں نے کفر کیا اور منہ موڑ لیا، اور اللہ نے ان سے بےنیازی ظاہر کی، اور اللہ بےنیاز اور تعریف کے لائق ہے۔ قرطبی وضاحت کرتے ہیں کہ اس کا مطلب ہے یہ عذاب انہیں ان کے رسولوں کے کفر کی وجہ سے ملا جو ان کے پاس آتے رہے۔ تفسیر مقباس اسے علامتی اشارے سے کچھ زیادہ صریح بیان کی طرف ایک اور قدم قرار دیتی ہے۔
