فَإِذَا بَلَغْنَ أَجَلَهُنَّ فَأَمْسِكُوهُنَّ بِمَعْرُوفٍ أَوْ فَارِقُوهُنَّ بِمَعْرُوفٍ وَأَشْهِدُوا۟ ذَوَىْ عَدْلٍ مِّنكُمْ وَأَقِيمُوا۟ ٱلشَّهَٰدَةَ لِلَّهِ ذَٰلِكُمْ يُوعَظُ بِهِۦ مَن كَانَ يُؤْمِنُ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِ وَمَن يَتَّقِ ٱللَّهَ يَجْعَل لَّهُۥ مَخْرَجًا
When they have all but reached the end of the term — the commentaries read reaching it as nearing it — either keep them in kindness or part from them in kindness. In both directions the kindness is defined against harm: no taking her back in order to hurt her, and no parting with abuse or reproach. Call two just men from among you to witness, and let the testimony be given for God's sake. Whoever believes in God and the Last Day is admonished by this. And whoever is mindful of God, He makes a way out for him.
پھر جب وہ اپنی مدت کے قریب پہنچ جائیں تو انہیں بھلے طریقے سے روک لو یا بھلے طریقے سے جدا کر دو، اور اپنے میں سے دو عادل آدمیوں کو گواہ بناؤ، اور اللہ کے لیے گواہی قائم کرو، اسی سے اسے نصیحت کی جاتی ہے جو اللہ اور آخرت کے دن پر ایمان رکھتا ہو، اور جو اللہ سے ڈرے، اللہ اس کے لیے نکلنے کا راستہ بنا دیتا ہے۔ قرطبی وضاحت کرتے ہیں کہ فاذا بلغن اجلھن کا مطلب ہے عدت کی تکمیل کے قریب پہنچ جائیں، جیسے سورۃ البقرہ میں اللہ کا فرمان ہے۔ ابن کثیر بتاتے ہیں کہ جب عدت والی عورتیں اپنی مدت کے قریب پہنچ جائیں، یعنی عدت کی تکمیل کے قریب ہو جائیں مگر عدت پوری طرح ختم نہ ہوئی ہو، تو اس وقت یا تو شوہر رجوع کا ارادہ کرے۔
