فَوَقَعَ ٱلْحَقُّ وَبَطَلَ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ
So the truth was established and what they had been doing came to nothing. The commentaries mark the point of the whole scene: the contest was held on their own ground, in their own craft, and it settled the matter there.
