وَلَمَّا سُقِطَ فِىٓ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَرَأَوْا۟ أَنَّهُمْ قَدْ ضَلُّوا۟ قَالُوا۟ لَئِن لَّمْ يَرْحَمْنَا رَبُّنَا وَيَغْفِرْ لَنَا لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلْخَٰسِرِينَ
And when it fell into their hands and they saw that they had gone astray, they said: if our Lord does not have mercy on us and forgive us, we will be among the losers. The commentaries read the phrase for their remorse: the biting of the hand in regret.
اور جب یہ بات ان کے ہاتھ میں آ پڑی اور انہوں نے دیکھا کہ وہ گمراہ ہو چکے ہیں تو کہنے لگے: اگر ہمارا رب ہم پر رحم نہ کرے اور ہمیں معاف نہ کرے تو ہم ضرور نقصان اٹھانے والوں میں سے ہو جائیں گے۔ مفسرین اس جملے کو ان کی ندامت کے طور پر پڑھتے ہیں: پچھتاوے میں ہاتھ کاٹنا۔
