فَخَلَفَ مِنۢ بَعْدِهِمْ خَلْفٌ وَرِثُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ يَأْخُذُونَ عَرَضَ هَٰذَا ٱلْأَدْنَىٰ وَيَقُولُونَ سَيُغْفَرُ لَنَا وَإِن يَأْتِهِمْ عَرَضٌ مِّثْلُهُۥ يَأْخُذُوهُ أَلَمْ يُؤْخَذْ عَلَيْهِم مِّيثَٰقُ ٱلْكِتَٰبِ أَن لَّا يَقُولُوا۟ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ إِلَّا ٱلْحَقَّ وَدَرَسُوا۟ مَا فِيهِ وَٱلدَّارُ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ لِّلَّذِينَ يَتَّقُونَ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ
Then a generation succeeded them who inherited the Scripture. They take the goods of this lower world and say: it will be forgiven us. And if the like of it comes to them again, they take it. Was the covenant of the Scripture not taken from them, that they should say nothing about God but the truth? And they studied what is in it. And the home of the Hereafter is better for those who guard themselves. Will you not use reason?
پھر ان کے بعد ایسی نسل آئی جو کتاب کی وارث بنی، وہ اس ادنیٰ دنیا کا سامان لیتے ہیں اور کہتے ہیں: ہمیں معاف کر دیا جائے گا۔ اور اگر ویسا ہی سامان دوبارہ ان کے پاس آ جائے تو وہ اسے پھر لے لیتے ہیں۔ کیا ان سے کتاب کا یہ عہد نہیں لیا گیا تھا کہ وہ اللہ کے بارے میں سچ کے سوا کچھ نہ کہیں؟ اور انہوں نے وہی پڑھا جو اس میں تھا۔ اور آخرت کا گھر پرہیزگاروں کے لیے بہتر ہے۔ کیا تم عقل نہیں رکھتے؟
