وَلَوْ شِئْنَا لَرَفَعْنَٰهُ بِهَا وَلَٰكِنَّهُۥٓ أَخْلَدَ إِلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَٱتَّبَعَ هَوَىٰهُ فَمَثَلُهُۥ كَمَثَلِ ٱلْكَلْبِ إِن تَحْمِلْ عَلَيْهِ يَلْهَثْ أَوْ تَتْرُكْهُ يَلْهَث ذَّٰلِكَ مَثَلُ ٱلْقَوْمِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا فَٱقْصُصِ ٱلْقَصَصَ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ
And had We willed, We would have raised him by them; but he clung to the earth and followed his own desire. So his likeness is the likeness of a dog: if you drive it off it lolls its tongue out, and if you leave it it lolls its tongue out. That is the likeness of the people who denied Our signs. So recount the accounts, that they may reflect.
اور اگر ہم چاہتے تو اسے ان نشانیوں کے ذریعے بلند مقام دے دیتے، لیکن وہ زمین ہی سے چمٹا رہا اور اپنی خواہش کی پیروی کرتا رہا۔ پس اس کی مثال کتے کی سی ہے، اگر تم اسے دھتکارو تو بھی زبان لٹکائے رہتا ہے اور اگر چھوڑ دو تو بھی زبان لٹکائے رہتا ہے۔ یہی مثال ہے ان لوگوں کی جنہوں نے ہماری نشانیوں کو جھٹلایا۔ پس یہ قصے بیان کرو تاکہ وہ غور و فکر کریں۔
