لِّنَفْتِنَهُمْ فِيهِ وَمَن يُعْرِضْ عَن ذِكْرِ رَبِّهِۦ يَسْلُكْهُ عَذَابًا صَعَدًا
so as to test them by it. And whoever turns away from the remembrance of his Lord, He will drive him into a mounting punishment. The commentaries agree the giving is itself the test, and that what is given can become the trial.
تاکہ ہم اس میں انہیں آزمائیں، اور جو اپنے رب کے ذکر سے منہ موڑے، اللہ اسے بڑھتے ہوئے عذاب میں ڈال دے گا۔ تفسیر مقباس کے مطابق لنفتنھم فیہ میں فتنہ کی علت پچھلے جملے سے مناسبت رکھتی ہے، کیونکہ یہ پانی پلانے کے تسلسل کی علت ہے، اور پانی پلانا خود ایک آزمائش بن جاتا ہے۔
